Final announcement by ICAI that CA Foundation exam held in May
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) officially announced a significant change in the CA Foundation & Intermediate Examination schedule in its March 8, 2024 press release. The CA Intermediate & Foundation course examinations, conducted twice a year, will now be held thrice annually in January, May/June, and September.
In 2024, Foundation examinations were conducted in June and September, and everyone expected that in 2025 they would also be conducted in January, June, and September. However, in its latest press release dated 18th December 2024, the ICAI clarified that in 2025 the exams would be conducted in May instead of June, and the last date for registration is 1st January 2025. Thus, candidates who would be appearing in Class XII examinations till April 2025 should register themselves by 1st January 2025 in the Foundation Course for appearing in the Foundation Examination to be held in May 2025.
Exams to be Conducted Three Times a Year
This announcement brings some changes to the CA Foundation examinations. Now, ICAI will conduct the CA Foundation exam thrice a year in January, May, and September, up from the twice-in-the-month June and December practice in the past. This revision offers students a more chance to sit for the examination and more effective time management of the academic course.
CA Foundation Registration Process
ICAI has ensured that 1st January 2025 is the last date to register for the CA Foundation Course for students appearing in the Foundation Examination to be held in May 2025.
ICAI has made CA foundation registration much easier through its self-service portal. Aspirants are supposed to sign up, enter their information, and upload the necessary documents to finalize the process.
The Reason Behind the Change
During the All India Managing Committee Members Meet (AIMCMM 2024) of ICAI held in Kolkata, the ICAI President, CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, explained the need for making this decision. He underlined that this change would be advantageous to students because they would have to wait for a shorter time after their study period or be given more opportunities to write exams within that year.
‘In other countries, it is more common to give examinations more often because this allows students more opportunities to demonstrate their proficiency.' This step by ICAI is unveiled to build up young talent towards their desired goal of becoming Chartered Accountants,” said CA Agarwal.
