CMA Final: Eligibility, Exam Dates, Subjects, Pattern and Results CA Point

Clearing CMA Intermediate is a big moment, but it is the final, where the course really tests you. The papers are weightier, the topics are more strategic, and you’re expected to think like a senior finance professional. If you're curious about what the final looks like and how to prepare for it, this post covers the essentials in simple words.

Who Can Apply?

To register for the CMA Final, you must have cleared the CMA Intermediate exam, with both groups, and hold a valid CMA registration number. If you are still working on your intergroups, finish those first.
Also remember the practical training. ICMAI requires 15 months of training in total, and you need to complete at least 10 months of it before the final exam. We have explained this in detail in our blog on the CMA internship after Inter, so read it if you haven't started your training yet.

Registration process

The whole thing happens online on icmai.in. Roughly:

  1. Log in to the student portal with your existing credentials.
  2. Pick the final course and choose oral or postal coaching.
  3. Fill in your details and upload the documents asked for.
  4. Pay the registration fee, then download and save the receipt.

The fee is ₹25,000, and ICMAI lets you pay it in two installments. Keep one thing in mind: this is the registration fee only. The exam form and its fee come later, separately.

Deadlines worth knowing:

  • June term: register by January 31 of that year
  • December term: register by July 31 (for December 2026 it was extended to August 4)

The December 2026 window has already closed. If you're aiming for June 2027, your registration deadline is January 31, 2027. Don't leave it for the last week, because the portal gets slow.

When Is the Exam?

ICMAI holds the CMA Final exam twice a year, in June and December. Here are the details for the current term:

  • Exam dates: 10 to 17 December 2026
  • Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Mode: Offline, at an exam centre
  • Registration and exam form: Both windows have closed (the exam form ran until October)
  • Next chance: June 2027 term
  • June 2027 registration deadline: Around 31 January 2027

If you missed this term, don’t worry. Use the months in between to finish your syllabus and revise properly, and you’ll go into June with a lot more confidence. Dates can change, so keep checking icmai.in, and don’t leave your registration for the last week, because the portal usually gets slow close to the deadline.

Subjects in CMA Final

There are eight papers, split into two groups of four. Under the 2022 syllabus, they are:

Group III

  • Paper 13: Corporate and Economic Laws
  • Paper 14: Strategic Financial Management
  • Paper 15: Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation
  • Paper 16: Strategic Cost Management

Group IV

  • Paper 17: Cost and Management Audit
  • Paper 18: Corporate Financial Reporting
  • Paper 19: Indirect Tax Laws and Practice
  • Paper 20: Elective, where you choose one of 20A (Strategic Performance Management and Business Valuation), 20B (Risk Management in Banking and Insurance) or 20C (Entrepreneurship and Startup)

You can be in both groups simultaneously or in one. Some students do one group first, giving it their full attention. Some do both, saving a term. Choose what fits your study hours and confidence. If you are doing your internship, too, be honest about how much time you will really have.

Paper Pattern

Each paper carries 100 marks and lasts 3 hours. The papers mix objective and descriptive questions. The usual structure in ICMAI's model papers is:

  • Section A (30 marks): multiple choice questions.
  • Section B (70 marks): descriptive questions, where you write full answers with workings.

The exact format can vary a little between papers, so check the instructions on your admit card.

Is There Negative Marking?

Current references report no negative marking for CMA Final, which means a wrong MCQ answer is not generally penalised. Still, check the official instructions for your term, and attempt every MCQ using elimination when you are unsure.

Passing Criteria

For each group, you need:

  • At least 40% in every paper, and
  • At least 50% aggregate in that group.

So a strong paper can cover for a weak one, but only up to a point. Don't aim for the minimum, because one bad paper below 40 can sink the whole group.

Results and Pass Rates

ICMAI publishes results on icmai.in, and you check them with your registration number. The December 2026 results will be published by 5 February 2027 at the latest.
It also helps to be realistic about how hard this level is. In the June 2026 term, the pass rate was 30.22% in Group III and 44.21% in Group IV. Group III has been the tougher one, so give it extra time if you are taking both groups together.

What Is the Practical Training Rule for Final?

You cannot ignore your internship while preparing for the final. You need to complete the required months of training before you appear, and you submit the training certificate (Form T-5A after 10 months and later the proof of the full 15 months) so that your final results can be released. Start tracking your months from day one so you don't find a shortfall when the exam form opens.

A Simple Preparation Plan

  • Start early and finish the syllabus with time to spare. Leave at least two months for revision. The final syllabus is big, and taxation and SFM both take time to settle.
  • Write, don't just read. Answers need workings and clear headings, especially in Cost and Management Audit and Corporate Financial Reporting.
  • Keep Group III and Group IV separate in your head. If you take both together, make a weekly plan that rotates subjects so none gets forgotten.
  • Don't skip the 30 MCQ marks. They are easy to lose through carelessness.
  • Practise with past papers, RTPs and mock tests. ICMAI's question style gets easier once you have seen it many times.
  • Keep updated with amendments. Tax laws change, so use the study material for your exam term.
  • Revise weekly. Short, regular revision beats a last-minute rush.

Final Thoughts

The CMA Final takes more time and writing and patience than the Intermediate, and the pass rates show it. But the path is clear: Know the syllabus, keep your internship months in check, practise regularly and take your mock tests seriously. If you’re aiming for the June 2027 term, starting early truly makes a difference. Keep an eye on icmai.in for official dates & announcements.
